Overview The Nursing Education Initiative (NEI) offers education grants to help nurses continue their professional development and strengthen their clinical knowledge and skills. Eligible nurses may receive reimbursement of up to $1,500 for each funding year.
Funding cycle and review process Grants are distributed quarterly. The funding year runs from April 1 through March 31. Applications are reviewed using objective, pre-established criteria. If requests in any quarter exceed the amount available for that quarter, eligible applications that cannot be funded immediately will be held and re-assessed at the end of the fiscal year (March 31) should additional funds remain. While many applications meet eligibility requirements, available funds are limited and not every applicant will receive funding.
Eligibility To qualify for NEI support, applicants must:
- Be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Be enrolled in professional development course(s) or program(s) that improve the quality of care and services delivered in Ontario.
- Submit their completed application within 90 days following the end date of the education activity.
Covered and non-covered expenses NEI funding is intended to reimburse base tuition and registration fees, including fees for conferences, seminars, and workshops. It does not cover non-tuition charges such as ancillary, laboratory, campus, incidental, athletic, or similar fees.
